If the 100 Circles was to be started today, I would certainly rename it "49 circles, and beyond". For most connected profiles of WikiTree, provided they are not too "eccentric", over 99% of the Single Tree profiles are less than 50 degrees.
Moreover, and yet another proof of "the more the Tree grows, the closer we are to each other" - a counter-intuitive assertion only for those who have not thought twice about it - the number of distant profiles (distance 50 and above) is steadily shrinking for every profile we monitor.
For the "historical" profile Vatant-5, let's compare the figures of November 2020 (the kick-off of the 100 Circles project) and July 2023 (rounded numbers)
Nov 2020 : 20M connected profiles, 270k distant profiles, 1.3% of the total.
Jul 2023 : 30 M connected, 163k distant profiles, 0.5% of the total.
Although the total population has grown by 50%, the number of distant profiles has fallen by 40%.
For our reference profile QEII, the number of distant profiles is lower, but has also slowly decreased from above 30k to around 27k as of July 2023, less than 0.1% of the total.
Closer and closer we all get.
