Please note: I am not descended from this man! The name appeared as a witness on a document of a person I am researching who is a neighbor of a 4th great-uncle. The name of the Notable also appears on Revolutionary War documents that include the 4th great-uncle.
Neighbor: [[Dodd-5037|Samuel Dodd (abt.1758-aft.1796)]]
4th Great Uncle: [[Dutton-1459|John Dutton (abt.1741-1831)]]
The notable is William Peery, FamilySearch profile LKFP-Q1J, and Find a Grave profile 7503623.
Both of these profiles indicate that William Perry had 2 wives, first Mary Hood in 1768, then Margaret Wilson on 21 August 1788.
The confusion comes from additional marriage records for a man named William Peery (FamilySearch MTFQ-K4V), from the same area as the above man. This William Peery marries a woman named Peggy Gill on 24 February 1789, apparently in the same church by the same minister as the previously mentioned William Perry. He paid 700 lbs for a marriage bond on 21 February 1789. This is a very substantial sum that would only be expected from a man of great means, like the "Notable" William Peery.
Note for those who do not know this: the name "Peggy" is a nickname for Margaret.
Is it possible they are the same man? Did the notable William Peery have a third wife who has been overlooked because her first name was the same as the second wife?
Or is there a second William Peery, a son, nephew or other relation of the notable William Peery?
