I Suggest an Improvement - a CC7 Recent Change List/Summary

I would like to request an improvement. It would be very useful to have a list of recent changes to one's CC7, as in a listing of those profiles. This would be useful when one sees changes in their CC7 number and would like to review what occurred. I recently posted a question about this in G2G and was offered a workaround. However, I would like to suggest creating a convenient chart or list of recent changes to a person's CC7. I know our developers do an incredible amount of work and I appreciate it. Would you consider adding this to your list of user-suggested improvements?

Just FYI, the question about how to find the CC7 changes has been posted before, with the same workarounds offered.

Once a CC7 list gets large, sifting through the names and looking for changes or additions is time-consuming.

I'd also be interested in not only additions but information about when the number drops, to see what profiles were removed from my tree. I know, I ask for a lot.

Thank you

The CC7 app under "Tree Apps" can give us this information. I used the app for the first time just yesterday.

Find "Tree Apps" in a tab on your profile page or in the pulldown menu under the tab for your user ID, and choose the "CC7 VIEWS" app. The app can show you a table with your entire CC1-to-CC7 collection, or you can choose just the CC7s, and to see recent additions and edits you can sort the results by date created and date modified (click on the column heading you want to sort by).
That sounds good for additions, Ellen. But if the app is only listing your current CC7 profiles, how does it show removals? It is often removals that are of most concern. Laura's idea of a new approach may be necessary to cover them.
Jim: Just to answer your question about how the CC7 Views can help you find removals... When a profile is detached from another, the other is 'modified', so if you look at the change logs of the most recently modified profiles on the list, you should find where someone has been removed. It's less convenient than what Laura is asking for, but that's one way to do it for now.
I agree with Ian. By looking at the "modified" dates on my "Degree 6" and "Degree 7" connections, I can pretty quickly see where profiles may have been newly connected or disconnected.
Ok, thanks. Seems indirect, but a useful approach.
This is the answer I received as a "workaround" but I'm requesting an actual improvement that makes it easier.
A shortcut would be if the date in the Modified column of the table generated by the CC7 Views app was a link to the Changes tab of the profile in that row.
Good idea. If I wasn't travelling, it would have been done already :) [Edit: actually, I found a few free minutes and have made the change - until it has been accepted at WikiTree, you can play with it at https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/smit641/dynamic-tree/#view=cc7

Riël Smit, thank you!

 Riel,

I have still been using the link you sent and I appreciate it. It has allowed me to pinpoint recent changes. My CC7 went up by 10 recently and I was able to see who was added. That was very nice. Did you incorporate this feature elsewhere? I am assuming it was accepted at WikiTree.

Would it be possible to add to the list/table the person who last edited the profile, so it is easier to pick out edits other than my own?

Thank you!

Yes, all the changes I have made to CC7 (and some more after the above) have been incorporated into the standard CC7 Tree App you get to via the Tree Apps tab on any profile.  You should no longer use the above link, as it no longer contains the latest Tree App changes.

Are you aware of the CC7 Changes feature of the WikiTree Browser Extension?

Unfortunately I cannot add who changed a profile since that data is not returned by WikiTree in their API.

Okay that app you made (I wasn't aware of it) works great. I just got the list and it is very helpful. Thank you so much!

It wasn't me - thank Ian Beacall for it. smiley

Riël is being too modest. It was mostly him. :)
