Just got a weekly newsletter from JewishGen which announced the following which might be of interest to some members here:

Upload your DNA data to MyHeritage and get free access to all DNA features. From October 1–8, 2023, people who have taken a DNA test with other services will be able to upload their DNA to MyHeritage and enjoy all our advanced DNA features for free — including Ethnicity Estimates, Chromosome Browser, Theory of Family Relativity™, and more. If you tested with another service and haven’t uploaded your DNA to MyHeritage yet, there’s never been a better time! Visit Upload your DNA data for free to receive DNA Matches - MyHeritage to get started.

Thank you for the information, Ellen. Unfortunately, I bought my DNA kit from CRI Genetics, 2425 Olympic Blvd., STE 4000 W, Santa Monica, CA 90404, United States, 1 (800) 571-9216, not knowing that they give NOTHING that can be uploaded.

A few quick notes. First, here is the MyHeritage blog post from October 1 explaining a bit about the testing, the offer, and including a direct link to start the process.

Second, if you already have a MyHeritage account and have taken one of their tests or have already uploaded data from another test, you will want to use the account you already have. Go to MyHeritage and log-in. After that, just click on DNA > Upload DNA data and follow the steps presented. You can have multiple DNA tests associated with one MyHeritage account, and will then manage them all in one place. You'll still get the free "unlock" offer through October 8 for the new test data that you upload.

Third, for of you who have done whole genome sequencing and perhaps prepped a "superkit" with a utility like WGS Extract (which produces a data file combining around 2.1 million SNPs from the formats of different versions of our inexpensive microarray tests; these can be used at GEDmatch, for example), MyHeritage will accept that kit as an upload (be sure to upload the ZIPped compressed file of the combined kit).

However, though you'll get a success message and a kit number for the upload, what you'll also get is this message:

DNA kit ****** was uploaded successfully and assigned to you.

The file you have uploaded is in a format that we do not currently support. We are working to add support for this file type soon and will notify you by email once your results are ready.

Given that these types of aggregate data files have been in use for about five years now, I can't imagine that it's likely MyHeritage is actively working on adding them for matching and reporting purposes. Which is a shame because having them would likely improve the accuracy of MyHeritage's "stitching" imputation and the evaluation of small segments.

An FYI, the offer has been extended to October 15. You can take advantage of it here: https://www.myheritage.com/dna/upload.

An additional note is that MyHeritage is an Israeli company. They are located in Tel Aviv, about 63 kilometers from the northernmost edge of the Gaza Strip. Most major airlines have suspended service to Tel Aviv; some travelers expecting to leave are staying inside Ben Gurion airport; and while the nexus of the fighting is south of them, nothing is really that far away in a country that's roughly the size of New Jersey.

For now, MyHeritage is operating as normal. But the streets of Tel Aviv are empty of the normal shopping, restaurant, and tourist traffic. The third-party DNA data uploads are an automated process, but if you are purchasing a new test or have support questions, please bear with them. The company is operating at an unprecedented time of duress in Israel's history, and I'm sure they don't have the full complement of employees on any given day.

Thanks for the update Edison, very much appreciated.

Many thanks. These offers used to coincide with the RootsTech conference every February/March and it is a very pleasant surprise to hear of one in October after silence from MyHeritage during the most recent RootsTech. I have put up a public post on Facebook with additional tips on availing of this offer:

Thanks Paddy, you're welcome. Good idea re-FaceBook.

Has anyone else been seeing this new message at MyHeritage?

"You have reached the maximum number of DNA Matches that can be viewed per day. You can continue viewing more DNA Matches tomorrow."

Does it apply to all accounts or just to accounts without subscriptions or just to DNA kits for which no unlock fee has been paid?  Does it apply to kits uploaded this week to take advantage of the free offer?

In what timezone is "tomorrow" defined? It was not long after midnight in my own timezone when I saw the message.

Still waiting on my matches to come through Paddy, will see what happens when they arrive. Did you happen to notice how many matches were allowed?

Thanks Mark,
Reading this thread prompted me to check. I have already uploaded my DNA in 2020, and did not upgrade. But I have had a full package with them for non-dna records for the last two years. My Ethnicity check for the last two years has had a "still processing - check back tomorrow" message  for at least 18 months, so I sent them an email 4 days ago. Haven't have a reply, but I now have my ethnicity data listed as 95% Irish, 5% Baltic States. Which raises more questions than answers - No Baltic references in my Ancestry analysis, but never mind. wink

18 months! Argh! Oh well I've got a while to go then. Can't really knock it though, 'twas free after all.
