Hi Wikitreers,

I wanted to show appreciation to our fellow Wikitreer Beulah! She has been helping in getting the 106th New York Regiment Connected and Sourced. The collaboration she is providing is invaluable.

There is a free space page for each Company of Veterans including the Field & Staff!

Let’s get these veterans connected laugh

Special thank you to Beulah Cramer yes

I think of my grandfather's older brother who died of some disease outside of Washington D.C. as I try to do one profile a day.  I think Andrew has done a tremendous job of listing all of these veterans and I feel honored to help his cause.  My granduncle sent a couple of letters home asking the family to protect a tame deer and comparing the price of cheese at home and in the army.  He thought his father would get rich if he could transport the cheese south and sell it.

It always amazes me how so many siblings in one family participated in the war. It affected everyone during 19th century American life. Disease was more feared than death in battle I’ve read. My own 3rd great grandfather was wounded at Monocacy and his brothers all served in the New York Regt’s.

I enjoyed the part about the “tame dear” and his concern for his family’s financial welfare. I think you get a sense of him in this. A treasure for sure.
Salute to your family members, Beulah and Andrew! My Georgia great-grandfather and his 2 younger brothers served in the same unit (Co H, 11th GA)...he lost one to consumption, the other at Second Manassas. Many other connections died of wounds or disease. I have yet to be able to collect stats on most of my Union ancestors, besides my 2x gg who did time at Libby Prison.

Reading Bruce Catton recently, I sympathized with the poor soldiers wounded at Spotsylvania, being painfully evacuated to the field hospital at Fredericksburg and probably wishing they'd died on the battlefield :(
