How can I find the parents of my great-grandfather Max Fine (Fine-873)?

Max Fine was born in Bialystok around 25 Mar 1871. He married Gussie Goldie Solowitz (Solowitz-4) in 1889 and emigrated to the US the same year. I have found no records of his parents, except that his father may have been named Leib or Ari Leib Fein or Fajn. Also, I cannot find any records of Gussie Solowitz' mother. Her father was Louis Solowitz ( Solowitz-5) from Choroszcz, Białystok County, Białystok, Poland

This appears to be his, and his wife’s, gravestone.

Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/224641709/max-fine: accessed March 30, 2024), memorial page for Max Fine (unknown–25 Jul 1932), Find a Grave Memorial ID 224641709, citing Washington Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, USA; Maintained by Athanatos (contributor 46907585).

Jewish gravestones will give his Jewish name and his father’s name, along with a Biblical quotation. Find-a-Grave apparently translates , partially, the inscription. You may want to verify the translation.

Hi David,

If you edit this post and add location (Poland) and surname tags you may get the attention of members who can help you.

You can also take a look at the project resources. The project list can be found under the Find drop down menu.

Good luck!
