My 2G grandmother is  from Parish of Colray, Ross township, Sligo County, Ireland.  My 2G grandfather is from Parish of Kilmorgan, Branchfield township, Sligo Co..  I can't find these places.  I assume they changed with time.  Is there a cross-reference?

The Topographical Dictionary of Ireland by Samuel Lewis, published in 1837, gives sketches of each civil parish, town, barony and county in Ireland.

If you do not have it handy, check these links :

Just noticed, Branchfield & Caltragh town lands are close together, on the outskirts of Sligo
Hi Valerie,

Thank you.  I found info on Branchfield township including a list of tenants with my ancestors.  I just realized I misspelled the other Parish.  The tombstone says "Colray" (no T).  Is there a different spelling that may help my search for this Parish?
I would pronounce "Calry" as Col-rye - we need somebody from the gaeltacht as a consultant in Wikitree!!

"Colray" sometimes "Colrey" is really bugging me because it is a place I have heard of but cannot locate. I don't see a "township of Ross in Sligo" and I do not know whether she would be R.C. or Church of Ireland and so, without knowing your 2G Grandmother's name, this is where I would have a look -

:The Roman Catholic Diocese of Elphin in Sligo

:The R.C. parish of Coolery, or Coolry

:Rosses Point

Which is on the western side of the civil parish of Calry, on the north side of Sligo Harbour.

Thanks Valerie,

My 2G grandmother's name is Bridget Gillan or (Gillen) born in Sligo county in about 1815.  By 1836 or earlier she was in Vermont and married my 2G grandfather, John McCauley (Cawley or something else?) who also came from Sligo Co. but in 1830.  I indicated their parish and townshitp in my first message.
