Shouldn't Northumberland Co., "Md.," be "Va.," since no such county in Md.?

There are three Ancestral File submissions that support it as Northumberland County, Virginia. 

An Edmund Basy was born at Folkeston, Kent, England on 19 Jun 1635. Parents were Anthony and Ann Basy.

I found this site which shows a map of Virginia with a county of Northumberland in 1645.  The next year shown is 1651.  Here is the link:

The site states that Northumberland county was formed from the Indian District of Chickakoan in 1645.  Lancaster formed from Northumberland in 1651, the same with Westmoreland.  Northumberland may have become part of WV after the civil war. I am at work and can't find it as I am speeding thru the list.  The list gives the names of the counties, when they came into being , when they ceased to exist and if they were combined to make other counties.

And of course, I got all caught up in the Virginia aspect, not the Maryland. Now I gotta go look some more. LOL  :)

An ancestor's obituary of 3 Sep 1824 states that he died at "North-umberland Ct. house Maryland". I have doubts.

Hi,

I have a Topical Encyclopaedia of the USA printed around 1947 and there is no Northumberland Co. in Maryland.

There is a Nothumberland Co. in Virginia (with a population in 1940 of 10,463).

Almost all references (on the internet) put Northumberland Co. in Va. but there are a few (recent and 17th century) that refer to this county being in Maryland.

There is also a Northumberland County, PA, and in New Brunswick and in England.
