I am so lost on this and I do so appreciate you, in the Community helping to fill in the blanks for me. This one may be an easy one, I hope. My Grandfather, James P Fitzherbert, was born in Easton, Maine in 1906. He married my grandmother, Blance E Hines in August, 1926. They then moved to Portland, Maine and are listed in the census and directories for that area. James was enlisted in the coast guard at that time and his pension records are found. He was discharged in 1929 with full pension because he contracted TB. They divorced, leaving my Grandmother (Blanche) and my mother. from there James went to the Hebron Sanitorium which was taken over by the state of Maine and renamed. I believe he was in and out of the institution depending on his health and during those times, he went back to Easton with his parents. In 1935 he married Geraldine Fulton and they had a daughter named Joanne (Joan in 1940 census). There is no record of James after the marriage to Geraldine. No divorce record, no death record no nothing....There was another sanitorium located in Bangor but it is not known if he went there. In any case, there is a record of Death for James Fitzherbert in 1979. Through research, I have been able to determine that was not my Grandfather. That James was b in 1913 and died in 1979. My grandfather was born in 1906 in Easton and according to my mother, he never would have survived that long. When she last saw him, he was in Hebron and at that location, patients were not. The question I have is, does anyone have any idea where the records (if any) would be located to possibly research him?

There is a James Fitzherbert listed on the 1940 census as living in the Northern Maine Sanatorium located in Presque Isle, Aroostook, Maine and according to that record he was in the same place in 1935 (possible that he married Geraldine and went into the Sanitorium the same year.  Both Hebron and Presque Isle Sanatorium closed in 1959.   Do we know if they had cementaries on site or was their a specific place they buried patients who died while in care  because if he died while in care, he might be buried close to that location since his parents were already dead (unless once of his siblings were able to bury him closer to them).  I know I'm ignoring the fact that he had remarried but since I can NOT locate Geraldine in 1940 I have no idea how long she stayed in the maine area.

I know that really doesnt' help you that much.  His parents (Jessie and Jane) are buried at Estes Park Cemetery but they are not on findagrave so there is no way of knowing if James is buried there as well.  I'm wondering if you would have better luck tracking Joanne through Geraldine's side of the family.  Unless James's brothers and sisters tried to keep in contact with them after their parent's died. James's parents dead before 1940.  Did Joanne move with her mother to CA or not.

(I'm sure that you already know this but the other James who died in 1979 would have been your James's cousin..their fathers were brothers)

Wow. I did find information in your research that I didn't have. I didn't know that James H was James P's cousin. I do know that at some point, Geraldine became a Murray. I am not sure when or where that happened as I was never able to find that record. I also know that Joanne did go to Ventura with her mother. I had no death information for Jane and Jessie. That was a big help!

I have been able to locate some resources with information on Joanne but I have  still not been able to locate her.  Still lots of pieces to put together!

Thank you very much for the information that you provided. I am always happy to learn any new information!!!

Do you know his middle name.  I found lots of my relatives even in the social security death record listed with their middle names at the time of death.  Just a suggestion.

I do not know what his middle name is. I just have the initial but I will try to find out and try your method. It's always nice to get other ideas!

Thank you so much
