Birth records for my great aunt, Mary Jane Passey, b. Oct 13, 1871 in Collington, Herefordshire, England.

Question

Mary Jane Passey was my mother's great aunt. My mother's mother (of course) was her neice, her name was Violet May Passey. She was born in 1896 in England I am told in Worchestershire. I would like to have the birth records for both ladies. Violet May's mother was a single mother at the time - which I'm sure makes it difficult to access vital records. I would be grateful for any information. Thank you. Aline M. Cook

I've taken a three-year period around both dates and checked across Herefordshire and Worcestershire for both names with no success.  It's not an issue with the BMD's that Violet's mother was a single mother, unless the father consented to have her registered under his name - he would have to be present at the registration for that.

I've also done a nationwide search for both within a three-year period of the dates given with no success.  Is there a possibilty of name changes?

I have also checked on the censuses.  In 1901 there is a Violet M. Passey (born Coleford Gloucestershire in 1891) living with her grandmother Sarah Passey, who was born in Eastnor, Herefordshire.

The 1891 census shows a Mary Passey born around 1869 in Collington Hereford as a servant in Gloustershire.  The birth reference is;

Dec 1868 Passey Mary Jane  Bromyard 6a 530

This will enable you to purchase the birth record from the GRO.

There is a birth of Violet May Passey in 1894;

The reference is:  Mar 1894 Violet May Passey Bromyard 6a 518
