I agree, perhaps my comment should be moved to a separate G2G but I wanted to support your comment.
I have been giving a lot of thought to what Collaborative Genealogy means on WikiTree.
One could say the profiles are gifts to the community, they belong to no one person, truly gifts of time and effort to the community and specifically made available for the community to improve and update. That is what makes WikiTree work.
I recognize that Living People should be kept private if so desired and perhaps there may be good reason to keep Grandparents private under certain circumstances, but everyone else should remain open if we are truly emphasizing Collaboration.
I recognize also that profiles being worked on, such as those in Projects or those that have a personal interest may wish to have some degree of control while work is in progress but those profiles too, should be seen and reachable.
