how can I delete a person added in error?

Did this person never exist ? Or is she linked to the wrong person ? If she is not the wife of Henry Newton Meece, you can unlink her ( remove her ) as a spouse by going to the right side of the EDIT FAMILY panel, Spouses:, then add/remove a spouse.

Ok, thanks. Yes she did exist. I found her as Mary Baker in some records and Polly Baker in others. I was concerned that Polly Baker was a sister second wife to my ancestor. However...subsequent children were born to Mary Baker. This stuff is tough! I am going to assume that Polly is a nickname. It is of course possible that a woman named Polly stepped into the marriage midway had a baby but Mary just stayed in the marriage.Safest bet seems to me that if Mary never left the marriage then all the children were hers.

OK, thanks. Her given name was Mary Baker but she was listed in one of her children's birth record as "Polly". I believe this was a nickname. Subsequent children were born to Mary Baker. So I just added the nickname to Mary Baker's file  and cited the reference.
