I sure wished we had some sort of spell check feature

Question

I know I am the WORST speller in the world. I have mental block to spelling! On top of spelling problems I also have arthritis in my hands, fingers and wrists. I miss key a lot and a spell check makes it easier to go over my finger mishaps and correct them. I would also save time with this feature. I either have to open up open office and check the word there or try and guess until I get the word right.

 I use Google Chrome for my brooser (sic) most of the time. When I post in the boxes for messages and posts them I do get the ziggy underline but when I right click to get the right spelling I do not get it!   I get cut, copy and paste options. There is no ABC box at the top of the message box to use.

Are there any plans to add this? Has anyone suggested this? Thank You for Your imput on this.

Have you tried using a speech-to-text software? I have rheumatoid arthritis, especially bad in my hands, and that's what I use instead of typing. Once the software is used to you, there are seldom any mistakes in voice recognition of words.

It might be something I set in Firefox long ago, but I get the red squiggly lines under misspelled words... no suggestions, but the notice that whatever's checking thinks it's wrong, so then I go Google it: define:whatever & Google can usually figure out what I was trying to spell.

Michael, Thanks for the link to grammerly.  I'm no professional writer, a big of technical writing experience for manuals, etc.  I've used these helpful sites before and always get the "Plagiarism" noted.  But no explanation.  I do copy (not paste) info from a document but never literally copy paste from another's work.  Why does that happen?  May I ask if you are an author and need this kind of assistance more than I might?  I would like to "write" more interestingly but perhaps not so much to pay for a subscription . . .

Can you add a little more about the kind of writers who would need it? Thanks again, it sounds good! LOL!  Perhaps I need it just to spell Grammarly!

Hi Barbara,

I am not an author in the sense that I get paid to write.  I have written articles and blog posts over the years for my profession and for genealogy. I was only using Grammarly for posting on sites like WikiTree.  Often the boxes to post information in do not have spell check as Pam's original question pointed out. Grammarly has been charging lately and other free sites have not worked as I would have liked.  Additionally, my Safari browser is now helping with spell check so I am not using Grammarly anymore.

When I write articles of length.  That is when I am not posting in little boxes directly, as I do on WikiTree, I use MS Word so I do not need Grammarly.

I have been using Grammarly for the last week. It's not perfect, but I am now a fan. It would be nice if they were "wiki-aware" and ignored content inside the various brackets.

Answering six years late but I have the same question, and just found an answer.

Firefox spell check only works in WikiTree Edit Text boxes when Enhanced Editor is turned OFF. I assume this is also true for other browsers.
