Fulkerson-1000 - GOAL

So when I first joined WikiTree, there were 231 Fulkerson profiles created on the Tree - now, there are 685. Granted, I've been here since November 2014, so we've grown 454 Fulkerson profiles in the 20 months since I began. However, I have a goal now that I'd like to see us hit a mark of a Fulkerson-1000 profile out there by the end of the year. I have been actively working my tree and my related cousin trees as regularly as I can to add more Fulkersons to the Tree, and am hopeful that we'll reach my goal.

I'm encouraging those of you who are either Fulkersons or have Fulkerson branches to join with me and help me reach my goal. I've seen at least 1-2 others who are already working alongside me on these goals now, but would love to see a few more pitch in.

Just thought I'd share this personal goal of mine - so thanks for any support you can provide.

Only 315 to go!

OK - many many MANY thanks go out to Esther Eshbach, who nearly single handedly (I helped a little, but she's mostly responsible) created a whole bunch of Fulkerson profiles that put us over the top of my goal today!

Thank YOU!

So  where does the Fulkerson name come from and what is a Fulker?  Any relationship like with Fullerson?
by Dave Dardinger G2G6 Pilot (443k points)
Good question. Originally, the name was Norwegian, so it revolved around patronymic naming for a time. When Dirck Volckertszen came over on the boat around 1630-ish, he was obviously not a Fulkerson. But he was the son of Volckerts, and you would imagine that his children became Dircksen? - Close - they became Dircks. However, there was a Volkert Dircks, whose children became Volkertszen. And from there, the patronymic naming was broken. His children were Volkertszen, next generation were Folkertsen and by the next, it was Fulkerson. So lots of variants around until the 1700's, where Fulkerson became the most common spelling.

And the closest translation of Fulker or Volker - I believe is "smith", which is funny, because Dirck was a carpenter. One of the first carpenters to come to New Amsterdam and who probably built some of the first homes for the workers in New Amsterdam/New York City when it was just getting started.
And if you want to read all about the Fulkersons, here's a great website that Bob Fulkerson put together some time ago before he passed away. It's not being maintained anymore, but it's a great source of information.

Hmm... and I don't know of any direct variant that translated to Fullerson, but it's possible.

Fulkerson-700 was just created - just need to keep up a steady pace to make it to 1000 by the end of the year.

Fulkerson-750 was just created. I'm slightly behind schedule, but still have time to catch up...

Thanks so much, Esther! I just saw Fulkerson-835 added to the tree!

I suspect we'll now easily make our goal well before the end of the year!

Woo Hoo!

Awesome! Thank you Esther! We'd have never been this far along without your help!

I've stalled a bit on the line I was working, so I need to pick up a slightly new line and work with it. I have been busy with the Notables and some side projects lately, including working my G-G-Grandfather's descendants as far down as I can go (focusing on mostly the non-Fulkersons for the moment), plus I keep seeing the Cemetery challenge and the lure of getting something done over there. So many distractions... LOOK A SQUIRREL!
