Can you give us a little more information?  Like your father's name and location and date of birth?  Your Grandfathers name?

My fathers name was Belamino  Avila and he died approx 1997 in Terciera Azores. I do not have a birthdate for him. I have found my brothers however they all speak portuguese and from what I understand had no luck years ago when they tried to trace the family line. Everything they tell me has to go through translate as they speak no English

Got relatives? Uncles, aunts, cousins? If so, ask?

There is a good possibility that you're father's death certificate will have the information. Assuming you know when he died and where he died, death certificates can usually be found in the town where a person died.
