I came across this web site designed for "creating citations".

Not sure exactly how it works yet.  I've seen the subject addressed on the G2G forum.  I'm still relatively new to the internet.  But I thought someone might find it useful for different kinds of sources.

I was looking for a single spot to organize all my sources for future reference.  I have them on Familysearch, Ancestry and even started putting them in an email to myself.  I just don't know what to do with them.  I spend too much time looking for a particular one.

You're welcome!
Have you tried https://www.mendeley.com

It's aimed more at academic journal articles, but might be useful.

That looks great. I have used this cite a few times to create a book citation. It works very easily. Put in your book title or find it on the internet and plug it in. A few clicks and out comes a citation.

that may be good for citing books and magazines but it's not going to help much with other stuff like a census or death certificate. Writing a bibliography is not the same as writing a genealogy citation.

This site is useful http://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/referencing-tool/oxford

It has lots of referencing styles for lots of different documents, not perfect for family history records but useful

I'm currently studying (part-time) for a history degree so citations for essays have become very important! citethisforme is good but I have now switched to using Zotero http://www.zotero.org/

Zotero is completely free and integrates with Firefox. It's fantastically powerful, able to deduce sources for itself from websites or pdfs, and can even act as an offline store. It does have a bit of a learning curve though and citethisforme is probably better for occasional users.
