The only thing that I can think of for automating entries is uploading a GEDCOM, which should be used sparingly because it causes many problems including, long bios, no sources, etc.

I don't know of any other way, but the best way is to manually enter profiles so you can add the accurate details and sources, which is extremely important.

Well my immediate concern is fixing the result of a GEDCOM upload!  I can imagine using GEDCOM dialect as a Domain-Specific Language to create WikiTree-compliant Biographies, but that's not something I want to devote a lot of personal time to. My concern is that my photos, notes, sources, and citations were in better shape outside WikiTree before I attempted this upload of a few dozen individuals. I despair of adding hundreds of new/duplicate individuals with only manual maintenance actions available.
Yes, I understand that! I have seen results of GEDCOM uploads.

I don't think wikitree has anything in regards to mass photo, citation uploads, but they are improving things everyday! Maybe sometime in the future we can upload many images and tag them to the appropriate people and the same with citations (I'd be curious to see how a mass citation/source input system would be done).
