Military Categorization, WW II Navy Ships, And Projects

Hello Everyone, and many thanks to all of you who work in the Categorization Project, and on setting up the many projects in WikiTree that I enjoy, and use.

I was looking through military categories today for profiles I'm working on. I have in the recent past been contacted to change a couple of categories by members of the categorization project, which I do appreciate, thinking I may find some more updated categories. I did, and was very pleasantly surprised to find the US Navy Ships in WW II categorized. The list with classifications proved to be extremely useful too. Thank you for providing it.

There are two ships I looked for but could not find. I know that these lists are most likely still in progress, or I didn't look in the right place. If not would it be possible to have them added? I hope I have provided the correct information below.

1. USS Babbit (DD-128), a Wickes Class destroyer, that was reclassified AG-102 in June of 1945.

2. USS Burleigh (APA-95), a Bayfield Class attack transport.

I think it will amazing to see who also served on these and other vessels with my Father and Uncles. The excellent work that has been done is appreciated, and I am looking forward to more great surprises, and work for myself as I also discovered the Vietnam War Project too!

you are correct in assumption that it is a work in progress. I got most of the capital ships entered, and was working on the smaller ones when we got put on hold to review the naming standards to create the various military and war categories.  Hopefully that review process will be done before too much longer, but it is rather involved and lots of people have opinions on how it should be set up...

Instead of creating new categories, and then maybe having to change them to an approved standard, I would just add a commented out category/note in the profile with what the ships are as setup now, and then modify/uncomment after we get the go ahead....

Thank You Kieth, I do understand. I really like the the revisions I've seen so far, and can't imagine what a long drawn out process it must be. The "Military Categories" are not near as confusing as they once were, and have coaxed me into discovering more information when I look at the few enlistment and discharge documents I have. It has peaked my interest in military history. I never thought that would happen!

I have a profile of uncle that was a Colonel (full?) when he retired from the U.S. Air Force that I would love to have some help or collaboration on. I don't know enough about awards and the squadron names to state them properly. I want to do his profile justice. Your possession of military knowledge exceeds mine and would be extreamly helpful. It is greatly appreciated even if your to busy or not interested.

I have very basic information and sources but haven't been able to put it together properly. If your interested, let me know so I can direct you to his profile, and add you to the trusted list. His sons and wife are still living so I don't want to put the privacy level to "Open" just yet. I hope you find him and his career very interesting.

Thanks again for everything, especially your many years of service to our Country.
