U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright profile began. Now let's connect her.

Question

After being unable to locate a profile for former United States Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, I created one. If anyone can locate another please initiate a merge. This Czechoslovakian born individual has ties in the Czech Republic, as well as Sweden, England and the United States. Could someone or a project jump in by adding her family to the wikitree. I've categorized her in the Notables project but if there is a different one that best suits her please freely edit. Also feel free to make any changes to the profile or bibliography. I do my best, but with a brain injury I acknowledge that I make mistakes.... and then laugh. Thanks!  Cynthia

 

Note: She was born Marie Jana Korbelova. I'm having a challenge getting this to show properly in the name section; what I'm doing isn't working.  Advice?

Thanks Ellen.  I tried tweaking it again but not able to get her real name, as well as show her updated name. This is what I currently have:  

Proper first name: Marie

Preferred name:  Madeleine ( assume it works best when blank but won't let me and auto fills in anonymous.

Other Nicknames: Madeleine

Middle name:  Jana

Last name:  Korbelova (with an accent over the A  (could this be an issue? Because I noticed when I posted this question the link section couldn't recognize her profile without it, so I cut and pasted )

Current lady name:  Albright

I think what you've done with the first name and preferred name fields is appropriate. An alternative (one that is necessary for some European names) would be to make Marie Jana her first name and Madeleine Jana her first name.

The Nickname should not be used in this instance.

When a person's profile is private, in public view the middle name will appear only as an initial. The only way to change that is to move the middle name into the first name field.

I do suggest that you add Korbel to the Other Last Names section.

Thanks Ellen for the help. I've tried multiple ways but I think part of the problem is the preferred name box. At least on a smartphone, once you've tapped that area it can no longer stay blank. It auto populates anonymous if not filled in.  If interested, could you request being added to the trusted list so you can try it on your end. Btw- just discovered we're 10th cousins, one time removed. Yea!

The preferred name can't be left blank. If the person used only one first name, the preferred name should be identical to the first name. But since Madeleine Albright was born as Marie and used the name Madeleine, the name Madeleine belongs in the Preferred Name data field.

Thanks so much for working we me via this g2g question. I think it looks correct now but if open to information. I like that we can work this out openinfky because I'm confident many people go through the same questions. Learning is a process for all of us, and it's great to know we are such a cooperative website!

The privacy controls prevent anyone else from making edits to the profile, which is fine for a person who is still living.  But if you could add profiles for the parents -- they are named in the biography -- and leave THEIR profiles' privacy open, then others can research the parents and add what they find.

It would be easy to go back another generation -- Madeleine's father Josef Korbel was also Notable -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josef_Korbel -- and his own wiki article contains the name of Medeleine's Jewish grandparents.  So the easy part of making the connections will be easy indeed.

I've now added her mother, father, grandfather and grandmother as well as her ex-husband to wikitree. Her father and former spouse have also been added to the Notables project.

I would add her ex- father-n-law as well as her ex-husbands step father but I don't know to juggle a known biological father and a step fathe, whom adopted him and gave him legally his last name. I'm gonna leave these two for someone else. Of note though, I would suggest we add the step father at least because he should be in the Notables project. He is American painter Ivan Le Lorraine Albright (1897,) well known for painting, drawing and poetry. Wikipedia says, " his dark, mysterious works include some of the most meticulously executed paintings ever made, often requiring years to complete."

Update:  I've now added Madeleine and Joseph's three children. Everything looks good but can't figured out why her former spouse is not showing up in public view. Note I did not check the box requesting their profiles not show up as linked. Confused. Looking for advice here.
