My grandmother was born on Sept 18 1904 in Oklahoma to James Monroe Alexander and ? mother.  I am trying to connect the dots for my dad and his family.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Her name was Maudie Ethel Alexander Spencer.

The 1910 US Census shows Maudie living in the home of James M. Alexander and his wife Clara.  She had siblings, including "Evertt."  if you follow those siblings, you find that Evertt was Clarence Alexander born in Missouri.  FindAGrave (with no citation) shows that Clarence E. Alexander's father was James Monroe Alexander and his mother was Clarinda Smith Alexander.(FindAGrave).  Missouri records show that James M. Alexander and Clarinda Smith were married on 6 Sept 1887 in Miller County, Missouri.  James's father was John J. Alexander.(Ancestry.com. Missouri, Marriage Records, 1805-2002 [database on-line]. That sounds right.  My dad, Donald Wayne Spencer could not remember his grandmother's name.  My dad also says that Clarinda Smith Alexander was Native American.  My dad has always said that she was Cherokee.  How can I prove or disprove this information?   Thanks so much for what information that you found!!!

Just work on the profiles, one at a time and work both backwards and sideways.  As you work back, you'll discover more.  As for the Cherokee heritage, most of the time, those stories are myths.  In this case, Clarinda/Clara was born in Illinois, and her parents were probably both born there too, so the chances aren't good that she's Cherokee.
      Thank you so much!!!
