Should I add an adoption template?

I was adopted at 5 by my mother's 2nd husband. I have entered my LNAB as my birth father's name because of DNA. My brother [[Jantz-143|Leslie_Jantz]] was also adopted at the same time. He is entered under our adopted name, he died young so no DNA complications there. I just found the adoption template and added it to his profile. Question: should I do the same with my profile? Would that then list us full siblings instead of half? Or should I leave well enough alone. I do have info in my bio about the adoption. This is weird. I keep getting the message that my WikiTree ID does not exist. Putting it here: [[Amos-1358|Linda_Sims]]

Hi Linda,

Welcome to Wikitree! I too am adopted, only fully. The template isn't obligatory but it is useful for people to see it. It might also help you to organise your family.

My recommendation is this:

Have your biological father listed as your father (for DNA purposes) but keep a profile for your adopted father linked through the adoption template on your profile page. That way, not only will it tell people the whole story in one easy view, it will also provide you with a nifty quick-link between families.

If you currently have your adopted father listed as your father you can go to your edit page and you will see an option in the right column to edit your parents. Just detach him and add your birth father's details. However, make sure you've made a note of his Wikitree ID for you to add to your template.

Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need anything else and above all, enjoy the journey. :-)

SInce your brother is already in the system as a half brother, I dont think that would change, just because you added the template.

Your wikitree ID Amos-1358 shows up fine.

It didn't allow me to put it in the url spot when asking the question.
