Why don't all location fields autocomplete? I think they should...

They just haven't been implemented on all of the location fields yet, Dan. They'll be added to the marriage locations field at some point.

I wish none of them did, but then that's me ;)

My thought as well!
Amen.
Well probably the best thing would be to make the functionality consistent and have an option to turn on/off auto completion across the board.

Just out of curiosity, why don't people like the auto completion?
I would LOVE to be able to turn off that "option." My gripe is that the FamilySearch names in many cases are incorrect. Ex: Massachusetts pre-1776. It wasn't Massachusetts Bay (that's water), it was the Province of Massachusetts Bay, and before that it was Massachusetts Bay Colony or Plymouth Colony. Try "Plymouth, Mass" and you get choices, none of which include "Plymouth, Plymouth Colony."

... then there's the dreaded "British Colonial America" used by no colonist. Ever. I challenge anyone to find a contemporary document written in "British Colonial America" that called it that. They called it New England, or Virginia or whatever the local colony/province name was.

</end rant>
All too often, auto completion has meant automatic creation of new errors.

I find it useful to double check standard spelling or to check the dates of a state whether it was the united States already or not.

It also doesn't auto fill for you so you don't need to use it if you don't want.
It's clear that some people find it useful.

Unfortunately, there have been a number of members who have assumed that the drop-down items are accurate (many are not) and have replaced valid place names with incorrect names. Also, it's not all that easy to avoid it. Sometimes the autocomplete feature gets triggered by accident (maybe a member absent-mindedly let the cursor graze across a place name box) and inserts a bizarrely incorrect place name.
Why I dislike it? For Example,

Perth, Western Australia, Australia would end up being Perth, Perthshire, Scotland if one took the first suggestion from the drop-down menu.

This is just one example of many.

There is an option to turn them off if you don't like them. You'll find a little link right below the death location field.

Looks like this:

... what you learn when you read G2G. Now why didn't I see that before? <face palm>

Thanks again, Julie, less frustration for me!
No worries, Bobbie! I had to go find it again because I couldn't remember where it was!!
It's never been "sticky" for me and it appears you have to do it for each profile.
I don't like them because the English places always seem to be at the bottom of the pile. I'd much rather use the dropdown of place names that I've already used before in that field, which originate from my own computer. it's simpler and quicker.
