Should Profile Managers or Administrators have "power" to edit profile comments?

I just tried to fix the formatting of a comment on a profile page (Spencer-753) to use wiki code to make a hyper linke out of a very long URL that was forcing the width of its column.

But my only option (as a Supervisor I ppresume-- and I think the same would be true for profile managers) is to delete the message.

I don't want to delete the message; I want to edit it.

What are the pros and cons of allowing this? Maybe it should only be a supervisor power.

I know that yesteday I posted a comment on a profile for the Mentor Project, and it "stretched the profile".  I am not sure why, I went back and looked, I couldn't figure it out, so I put a note in the next box (I was out of room) and told the member to delete it once he had the information he needed.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but it was my temporary solution.
I found one that did that for no apparent reason... the only difference was I had copied/pasted it in from a Word document. I deleted it and typed it in directly and it was fine. (Also - Lianne posted to the Greeters that adding a space in front of a line will make it a non-breaking line.)  Cheers, Liz
Juat to clarify so I can correct this going forward.

If I have text and accidently put a "space" at the beginning of one line, that it will make it "non breaking" or AKA one continuos line, right?

I can go back now and find the few profiles that I have worried over and gave up on and unstretch them by removing a space.

This coding stuff is just amazing.

Thanks Liz and Lianne.  You guys are the best.

Hi Jillaine,

I think it's best to reserve the power to edit a member's comments to the member themselves and sysops.

Comments aren't wiki. Changes to them aren't tracked. So, any edit will appear as if the original poster said it.

I realize the formatting change has caused problems. If you find comments that you'd really like to preserve, you could e-mail info@.

Note that you could also delete the comment and post a new comment that quotes the original.

That makes sense, Chris. Okay. I'll delete and repost, quoting the original. I don't want to bother info@ with stuff like that.

Chris is right,

Comments aren't wiki. Changes to them aren't tracked. So, any edit will appear as if the original poster said it.h

Editing should be limited to the OP, and probably sysops

Changing back to vertical characters should be optional, too.

But comments DO use wiki code -- i.e., I was able to convert a long URL to a link with fewer words (and spaces) using the [http.... Link name] format... IN comments.
Using wiki markup and being wiki are two different things. Wiki refers to the editability and the tracked changes of something, so bulletin board posts are not wiki. They just use the same code to make it easier.
