Is it permissible to delete old messages about merges that have long since been done?

Question

Three messages proposing three separate merges were posted on this profile, and the merges were completed, all back in 2015. Can the messages be deleted?

I agree. Wikitree's warnings about deleting old comments are too strict. Old comments proposing merges that have already occurred are a prime example. They have Zero value or relevance and should be deleted.

Definitely worth reading, the notes on Margaret Lewis...the merges not so much!

A couple of thoughts...

1. Some members may not know the profile has/had been merged and may have the old profile number stored somewhere in their own research notes.. so they do serve for historical record purposes.

2, Since G2G Q&A have "points" attached to them, deleting questions will unfortunately decrease a member's points and/or titles, who took the time to respond or even merge the profiles in question, and that may affect their standing in point levels received in past months/years. With that in mind, I would not recommend deleting those questions myself on G2G if they ended up on here. But "yes" on individual profiles themselves!!! Thanks for clarifying that Loretta!!

I've often deleted my own merge requests after they have been done as they seemed to only serve to confuse rather than inform. And the profiles were empty, and often abandoned ones. I always thought there was a redirect from the old profile number to the new one.

Thanks Dorothy B. The "questions" I wanted to delete are not G2G.  They are simply comments posted directly on the profile.
