I notice there are Metz profiles but I haven't been able to connect my family to them.

Just curious, but do you know what area of the US they may have ended up in?  Just wondering if it was near where my ancestors were )Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio.  Sometimes knowing location helps.  I have additional Metz relatives but am still working on updating them.

Amy, Thanks for replying.

I'm not sure if they were somewhere else first, but they ended up in Brooklyn, NY.
This is a funny coincidence, but one of my relatives on my fathers side married Fred George Metz (abt. 1887-1940) on 8/26/1908.  They seemed to have settled in Woodbury, Iowa.  They had two sons and two daughters.  His father was John Phillip Metz (abt. 1867)and his mother was Barbara Kautz both born in Germany.  Any of this familiar to you?

Since her death certificate isn’t legible, you should contact her cemetery. Cemeteries can have a lot of useful information including names of parents.

Unfortunately, the cemetery records were burned in a fire many years ago.

Do you know where in Germany your Metz family came from?  In my family, they came from a little town called Hayna, near Herxheim.  There are a ton of George Metz's in that town.  I have a lot of research on that part of the Metz family.

In researching Baden-Wurtemberg I recently came across the name of that town (Hayna near Herxheim) I can't say for sure that is where my family was from but its worth looking into for sure!  Any information on a birth of a daughter named Esther around 1872 could lead to something...Please share some information with me or a family tree perhaps?  My email is pattimal69 (at) gmail.com.  I look forward to collaborating with you.

I'm sorry.  My Metz sisters immigrated to the United States about 1850 and I stopped searching Hayna/Herxheim after that.  If you can find Esther's parents, I may be able to tie you into a whole list of relatives.  I don't have this line up on Wikitree yet.  In doing this research, I found familysearch to be particularly helpful for Catholic families in this particular area of German lands.
Yes I do realize that...it’s not going to be an easy task to find where she came from or finding her family!  Thank you for your input.

Just a caution before jumping to any conclusions: Metz is a not uncommon German name, occurring all over Germany. It's derived from two common professions: both stone mason and cutler, as well as a patronym from Matthäus and Mathias, and a matronym from Mechthild or Mathilde. So if dates don't quite fit it's a good possibility that they are not the same people.

Yes!  That’s another reason I am having a hard time.  The only solid lead I have on her is that she was born in 1872.  That’s not much to go on...but I do pay attention to dates.
