My great great Grandfather was John McCoy

I know that he and his wife Mary Geddis lived in county Armagh and Cavan ( birth of their son James in Cavan 1822) Ireland from 1769 to 1838 when they immigrated to Canada. Comparing similar family names I believe they may have been related to a family at Clones or Dongh county Monaghan. Both of these places are in close proximity to Cavan and Armagh. Is it possible to compare other McCoy family tree's by geography and time?
