John, can you give an example by providing a profile ID?
It can be done, but it's a lot of trouble. In such cases, I usually just use it as the profile for some real person with the same name and add a source. Most of the time, when I run into those, it's for some family I'm researching anyway, and I always have tons of people I can document that I'm not going to bother making a profile for. Like if I can't tell which Aloysius Bandersnatch this is supposed to be, I'll just make it into the first unprofiled Aloysius Bandersnatch I can find.

You could add it to the Recycle Unknowns category.  If someone else is looking to add a new person with the same surname as the profile in question, they could edit it and turn it into the profile they desire to make, instead of using up another URL.

As Pip asked, an example would help, but in general you cannot delete a profile. You can disconnect it from other profiles but ti will continue to exist.
