His profile needs updating and help from the civil war group.

We believe his brother Merida Jackson Mitchell also served in the civil war.

Byrd Mitchell: Unit 28th Reg. LA Infantry (Thomas') Company I, enlisted as a private and discharged as a corporal. Taken POW at Vicksburg Jul 4, 1863.

Need help with categorization, sources, etc. Thank you wikitree family. Kind regards

Didn't want to let this go unresponded. Thank you for setting up the profile and I've got a strong lead on MJM. I have found a Jackson Mitchell in LA Civil War, but must research further to assure it is the same person. I have found Buck Mitchell a few lines above Bird Mitchell on 1860 census.

Thank you Victoria for all your help. I have 4 grandpa’s who served in the Civil War and my wife has 2 grandpa’s. You have provided some great sources. Much appreciated
I'm enjoying the quest. I'm digging into the resources I have for the Red River Campaign (TransMississippi territory). I've made an inquiry on the Civil War Project about categorization of specific battles. I don't want to stick a new category up without being assured that it hasn't already been done and I just haven't found it. As for Buck, I'm looking more at the Battle of Sabine Crossroads which lead to the Battle of Mansfield, LA. Sabine Pass, TX seems less and less likely considering where Byrd enlisted and fought.  I've seen the other individuals you have listed as well. Carman name goes way back in my lines, too. Classic example of how the war pitted family against family.
