Is Gibson Hutchinson male or female?

I am trying to resolve a 501 (wong gender male) suggestion on this profile.

I am not the PM and the actual PM is unresponsive, not been active since July this year.

Using FS I have found two sources.

The first one has Gibson's gender as male:

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NB74-VJF : 11 February 2018, Gibson Hutchinson, 05 Jun 1754); citing , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 91,114, 91,115, 91,116.

This one looks most likely, it refers to Gibson being born in Sunderland, to the parents on the profile.

However, the second source (and there are subsequent sources that assert the same) states that 'she' married William Heriot.

England, Durham Diocese, Marriage Bonds & Allegations, 1692-1900, database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q21P-D8BF : 25 July 2017), William Heriot and Gibson Hutchinson, 19 Feb 1776; citing Marriage, Durham, England, United Kingdom, Church of England. Durham University Library, Palace Green; FHL microfilm .

I would be greatful for anyone's opinion.

The FamilySearch entry appears to be based on some unidentified existing transcription.  It's quite possible that the register said son or daughter, but this info was lost in the transcription, and then the LDS transcriber guessed.
I note that the transcriptions are from Presbyterian and United Presbyterian congregations.  That area had quite a lot of Scots living there and it was not unknown for Scots to give a daughter the surname of an ancestor as a forename leading to names like "Gibson Hutchinson"  The original records of the various Presbyterian congregations indexed on the microfilms RJ found appear to be held by Tyne & Wear Archives and are only partially microfilmed (see https://twarchives.org.uk/collection/user-guides-and-information).

I know it's not an answer, but it might help to explain the apparently strange name!
Thanks RJ. Given there is a copy of the document of the marriage between William Heriot and Gibson, that makes me more inclined to believe that Gibson is female.
Thanks Sheena, that's good information to know, thanks for your help.

Not sure if a PM was sent to me or it got lost in my inbox somewhere?
Apologies either way.

I believe Gibson Hutchinson (1754-1785) is female.  She is reported as my 6x Great Aunt in my Ancestry tree, sister to John Hutchinson (1765-1835) my 5x Great Grandfather. She married William Hariot.

There is another Gibson Hutchinson (1787-1851) listed in my tree how married George William Johnstone (1786-?), reported as a 5x Great Aunt, the sister of my 4x GGP Mark Hutchinson.

The original Gibson Hutchinson that you mentioned has a Grand Daughter called Gibson Taylor who married John Fargie.

From all these profiles, I'm quite confident that Gibson is of female gender in this line.

Hope that helps, and sorry for missing your question.
