Existential crisis?

Yesterday I signed up as an undergrad at MIT. At 66 this seems to be an odd thing to do. Genealogy is totally to blame; I became interested in genetic genealogy, and that led to genomics.

I'm doing 7.00x: Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life and plan to follow that with 7.QBWx: Quantitative Biology Workshop in November.

Should help greatly in my plan to set up a small biolab ...

smiley Sartre and others emphasized the individual is a free agent wholly responsible for his (own) actions.  Okay.

laughI don't know if I should laugh with you (rejoicing) or cryingcry for you (mourning). enlightenedAh, well, if nothing else it's going be a (non-fatal) opportunity for you to learn something new. yes

No keg parties, dude ! And don't go Greek.
by Eddie King G2G6 Pilot (699k points)
I tried Greek once, didn't like it much.

Oh, and I don't drink, but a kegger might be difficult given that I'm studying externally via the 'net from Australia. :)
My college was so small there was no Greek except the two year track in Koine. I got one year in and that was enough.
Hahaha. I think by "don't go Greek", Eddie meant don't join a fraternity.

I think this is wonderful. No one is ever too old to learn. I remember back when I was in grad school, one of my best students was almost 70. He got a degree in Computer Science (in the 1970s) just because it sounded interesting.  In any case, congrats. You''l do great.

This makes me so happy! I'm 33 and just finished a degree in biology (my second degree and allowing me to embark on a total career change), and now I'm working on my genetic/forensic genealogy skills to hopefully be able to offer services to the general public sometime in the future. In the meantime, I work in a medical lab and am training as a histotechnologist. You're never too old to learn new things or do new things, I am convinced...though sometimes I do feel like I'm behind where I want to be in life.
