Why is my Interwikimedia link not working correctly?

Question

When I use [[Wikipedia:Walloons|]], (with the bar) it doesn't link at all.  This is the one I want, because I'd like to display only the word after the colon, "Walloons."

When I use [[Wikipedia:Walloons]], (no bar) it links, but shows up as Wikipedia:Walloons, not what I want.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?  Thanks in advance, all you Masters of markup

In case anyone else is looking for it, (or in case I lose it) after saving, the markup automatically changes to this:  [[Wikipedia:Walloons|Walloons]]

When using your first example of just bar at the end, it does work but you don't see it until you save the edit and return to the profile.  In other words preview won't show the link.
