Births for many children can be found at https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com

You may find other records if you search.

The 1871 census shows that Malcolm, age 40, was born in Scotland but his wife, names Effie in the census, age 29, was born in Nova Scotia.

In 1881 census he is 51 and she, now bamed Ellen, is 40.

Continuing on Eugene's comments:

The Birth Records at Baddeck, Victoria Co. for Samuel (1866), and Norman (1867) gives parents as Malcolm and Ellen Beaton.

The Birth Records at Baddeck, Victoria Co. for Catherine (1868), Ann (1870), Jessie (1872), Samuel (1874), Ronald (1876),  all give parents as Malcolm Beaton and Ellen McDonald.

There is also a Birth Record at Baddeck for a Samuel Norman (1876) who is the son of an Angus Beaton and Isabella McDonald.

In 1861 there is a Samuel Beaton (Ellen's father-in-law?) at Baddeck: http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1861/jpg/4108903_00103.jpg

Here is an old link from Genforum in 2002 that concerns the same family.   It says that Samuel Beaton married Catherine Campbell Jan. 7, 1829 Snizort parish, in Skye. The family immigrated to Cape Breton in 1840. They lived in the New Glen, Baddeck area. They had sons, Malcolm [married Ellen Mac Donald 1863] Angus [ married Isabella Mac Donald abt 1878], Norman, and Ann. Malcolm and Angus lived out there lives in New Glen.
