Beulah Bailey was born in 1718 in Bradford, Massachusetts, the tenth child of James Bailey and Hannah Wood.[1]
In 1735/36, Beulah married Daniel Griffin of Newbury.[2] Her new husband was the brother of Jonathan Griffin of Newbury, whom her older sister Ednah married just 4 years before. Beulah moved to her husband's town in Newbury, where they recorded their first three children:[3]
On 1 Jun. 1773, Daniel and Beulah “of Tewksbury” deeded property in Newbury, MA to their nephew Jonathan Griffin “of Newbury” (son of Daniel's late brother Jonathan Griffin), land that they had inherited from the estate of Daniel’s father Shimuel Griffin.[5] Daniel and his wife were living in Tewksbury, MA when the 1790 census was taken.[6]
Beulah lost her husband in Tewksbury (1799) in his 88th year. Beulah was likely the second female over 45 living in Tewksbury with her son Shimuel (and next door to son Uriah) when the 1800 census was taken. Beulah lived until the grand old age of 94, passing away in 1812.[7]
