Douglas Dean Matthew Casson was born on 25 Nov 1907 in Inverell, New South Wales, Australia as the second child of Hugh McKenzie Dean Casson and Elizabeth Thompson. He had two siblings, namely: Donald Hugh Alexander Thomas, and Geoffrey McKenzie John. When he was 20, he married Jessie Gwendoline Taylor, daughter of [[Taylor-38200John Thomas Taylor and Jessie Ross McKay, on 20 Aug 1928 in Mittagong, New South Wales, Australia.
