Biography

Henrietta Coates was born January 8, 1760 in Clarke County, Georgia. She is believed to be the daughter of William Coates, who died 24 Jan 1780 and Sarah Young. ^[1]

She married John Bankston, son of Peter Bankston on June 10, 1778, in Georgia.^{[citation needed]}They had twelve children, all born in Georgia before the family came to Louisiana.^[2]

The abstract reads: Sheriff's Sale, Will be sold, on the first Tuesday in June next, at the Court-house in Wilkes County... the following property viz, third para: Also, 80 acres of land in Wilkes County, on the waters of Rocky creek, adjoining Thomas Terrell, William Jones and others, the same tract whereon Asa Hoxey now lives, with the improvements thereon. The above levied on by virtue of an execution, Joseph Clay & Co. against William Coats, Nathaniel Coats, Zachariah Lamar, Howel Jarrett and John Bankston -the property pointed out by Reuben Hill, esq.^[3]

Howell Jarrett was married to Jane Smiley Coats/Coates; he was also a distributee and administrator along with Nicholas Jarrett (his brother) on the estate settlement of William Coats. He was an administrator of Lesley Coats estate.

John Bankston was married to Henrietta Coats (Coates) and lived near the Coats, Howell Jarrett, and Lawrence Bankston (likely his brother). John Bankston and Henrietta Coats named some of their children: Howell Bankston, Lesley Bankston, Peter Young Bankston, John Young Bankston, Henry Harrison Bankston, Levi H. Bankston, John Jacque Bankston, Cecelia Bankston.^[4]
