Biography

Phebe Ely, b. 1766, d. 1853, daughter of Elijah Ely and Catherine Lee ; married Lieut. Calvin Selden of Lyme (the fourth son of Ezra Selden and Elizabeth Rogers), September 20, 1790.

They lived for more than twenty years in a house his father, Ezra Selden, had built near the village of Hamburg. Here Squire and Mrs. Selden dispensed old-fashioned hospitality, and lived so as to win the sincerest respect of their neighbors.

Phoebe died at the house of her youngest daughter, in New Haven, October 15, 1853.

4. Samuel Lee b. Oct. 12, 1800, d. Sep. 20, 1876, m. July 27, 1831, Susan Matilda Ward.

5. Almira, b. Sep. 20, 1803, d. Sep. 29, 1867, m. May 28, 1826, Nathaniel A. Bacon.

6. Henry Rogers, b. Oct. 14, 1805, d. Sep. 18, 1885, m. Sep. 25, 1834, Laura Anne Baldwin.

Phebe Ely was born May 10, 1766, and was the eldest daughter of Calvin Selden's third cousin, Elijah Ely and Hepsibah Lee of Lyme.
