Brice, a businessman engaged in trade and forwarding, died in the spring of 1823, leaving wife, son and daughter Ellen. John MCLAUGHLIN was appointed to administer the estate, and left the area with the proceeds.
The widow married Silas Farley, a flatboatman and farmer. They moved to White Co., on the Big Wabash, where Silas died the winter of 1833-34. His last trip on the river was disasterous, with all goods lost, and the family was left without means.
