Randolph was the first to be buried in New Salem Cemetery, and that he stepped on a nail that caused his early death
Apparently Randolph's grave is the oldest in the cemetery. A deed exists wherein Randolph's father donated land for Mount Zion Church and Cemetery; and this fact, along with his son being the first burial, has led to speculation on John's role in the establishment of New Salem as well. The Mount Zion transaction that occurred in 1877 after John Frady had acquired considerable land. In 1850 Randolph is shown as a 7 year old son of John and Polly Frady.
