From Dorothy Graves Rice: "William Henry grade suspected that his son, Ferdinand Carl, might have been smoking cigarettes when he returned from World War 1, and he told my dad that he could choose between living at home and tobacco, but he could never smoke on his property. As far as I know my father never smoked and respected his father's counsel while a teenager at home."
