Benjamin was born in 1821. He was the son of Robert Henry and Cynthia Tyler. He passed away in 1898.
Benjamin Tyler Henry was a Firearms Designer & Inventor. He was hired as a plant superintendent for Smith & Wesson where he received a patent in 1860 for his Henry .44 caliber repeating rifle. His rifle soon proved itself in the Civil War. He felt under-compensated and tried to wrest ownership of the gun manufacturing plant from Smith & Wesson. His rifle was modified and improved to become the first Winchester rifle, the Model 1866 which was prominent in the Battle of the Little Big Horn with General Custer. Henry left the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. and worked alone until his death in 1898.
