Paternal Side
My Paternal great-grandmother Lillie Mae Manning who has Bass/Basse ancestors going back to Jamestown, Colonial Virginia.
My ancestor, John Basse married Elizabeth (Nansemond) Basse of the Nansemond Indians and their descendants later married a descendant of the Bunch/Punch line, likely descending from John Punch, a person of West African descent who is believed to be the first enslaved person in Colonial Virginia.[4] [5]
See: Isaac Bass, and Nancy (Bunch) Bass, and their ancestors to see the specifics of this lineage.[6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Maternal Side
On my maternal line, my Great-grandfather Brooks Heading has the Brooks surname in his line which hails back to John Brooks aka John Brooke who was part of the Lost Colony expedition, Roanoke in what is now Dare county, North Carolina.
