Yates Lafayette Holmes was born on Feb. 11, 1874 in Tylertown,Pike County, Mississippi and died of a hernia on Feb. 19, 1933 in Longview, Texas. 1880 US Census FamilySearch.Org. His brother Dewitt Holmes was listed as witness to his death record. He petitioned to have a grave marker for Yates service in the Spanish-American War of 1898. [1][2]
Yates was known as the marrying Uncle. He married more than four times. First, he married O' Tera Andrews.
His second wife Sarah Minnie Lenoir Holmes died at a very young age, only 22. They married 1899 Her father was Robert Lewis Lenoir. Find A Grave: Memorial #161969793
He married Maude Andrews and they had two children, Eugene Elisha Holmes, age 4, and Mazelle Holmes, age 1, on the 1910 US Census. [3]
He married 3rd Mary Rae Chandler Stoner on Sep. 27, 1912, in Caddo County, Arkansas, United States. Mary Rae, daughter of Samuel Michael Stoner and Frances Eliza Vines, was born about 1896 in Jewella, Louisiana, and died on Nov. 30, 1981, in Santa Margarita, San Luis Obispo, California, United States of America. Her mother Frances is a granddaughter of George C. Yount, founding father of Napa Valley and the wine industry.
