Jozef was born in 1803. Jozef Jaholkowski passed away about 1861.

He married Marie Ledru in Cognac, Charente, France in July 9, 1839[1].

Birth of Joseph Jaholkowski, s. lieut. 10 lanc., in Policzka, Grodno. [from "Souvenir de L' Emigration Polonaise".]

1828 Graduated from the University of Kiev, at age 25. Nobleman who joined General Dwernicki during the Polish Revolution of 1830."They followed General Dwernicki in several bloody battles but at last were beaten by overpowering Russians, tossed into Galicia, disarmed by Austrians and kept there as war prisoners. 4 Jan 1832 Received "Certification of Captain"."In the service to the state, Joseph Jaholkowski 2nd Lieutenant, military officer, 10th Regiment of Light Cavalryman is hereby elevated with certifications a group captain (colonel). Given in the middle of Friedland in Western Prussia."[Polish Military Citation for Joseph JAHOLKOWSKI. Obtained from J. W.SCARBOROUGH, Florence, Alabama.]

Capt. of comp., Wolhynian Regiment. After surrender of Warsaw (7 Sept 1831) Gen. Dwernicki's Corps were forced, for the second time, into Galicia. A short time afterwards, the army of Gen. Rozyeki met the same fate. Joseph and I were transported to Moravia (Czechoslovakia). Escaped to Saxony (E. Germany),then to France. Joseph was assigned to Bourges, Dept. du Cher, obtained Government permission to locate to Paris where he studied in a commercial school of accounts. In this position he visited South France where he met and married Miss ElizabethLEDRU of Cognac, Depart. of Charente. They had five children: Stanislaus,Elizabeth, Sophie, Thaddeus, and Adelaide. Marriage to Elizabeth LEDRU in Cognac, France. Adele told stories of how she corresponded with relatives in Poland and France until WWI, when they lost touch. Mimi MCGLOTHLIN has several post cards, written in french, that have been preserved. In 1976 when Miriam SCARBOROUGH McGlothlin travel to Cognac,they could find no trace of anyone by the name of LEDRU; however, the GAUTIER family still remains there.
