In his later life Abraham Johansson Wetterberg is consistently said to be born in Alfta parish in 1730. However, the birth book for Alfta shows that he was born to soldier Johan Tieder and his wife Margeta Wallberg 19 May 1731.[1] The obituary of his sister Magdalena confirms that Johan Tjeder was the soldier name of Johan Wetterberg.[2] Margreta and Greta are variants of the same name; her full name should be Margreta Abrahamsdotter Wallberg.
Abraham learned the profession of salpetersjudare (potassium nitrate production from the soil found under cowsheds). He may have been in Söderala since about 1745. He married Christina Sundin in Söderala 25 January 1757[3] Their daughter Stina may well have been born in November the same year (as is stated in a few household records) - but perhaps in a different parish; she is not in the birthbook for Söderala. Abraham Wetterberg, wife Kerstin and daughter Stina - can be found in the household record for Vedtjära.[4]
Abraham was widowed in January 1775. He married Brita Persdotter Tunström 3 September 1775. His daughter Stina left home to earn her own bread at about the same time. The marriage note for Abraham and Brita makes sure that Stina's inheritance from her mother had been properly set aside.[5] In 1777 Abraham Wetterberg and his wife move from Söderala to Färila, where she was born.[6] The relocation seems to have been somewhat gradual, because their son Abraham is mentioned in the household record in Söderala parish, although he was born in Färila (he is in the birth book there)[7]
There is an extraordinarily detailed record of people moving in to Färila parish at this time (1777), citing the attestations from the vicars in the parish they left.

So it's here we are told that Abraham was born in Alfta in May 1730, and that he has lived in Söderala for the last thirty years.[8] Abraham and Brita settle at Fätingsberget, which is not always in the household record books. We can find them as crofters at Feting from 1781 to 1794[9][10] - but not before or after that. When Abraham Wetterberg dies in 1791 the entry in the death book for Färila has Sophiendals hytta as his abode.[11] However, he died while in Järvsö, and was buried there. In the death book for Järvsö parish he is the poor man, former salpetersjudaren Abraham Johansson Wetterberg from Los bruk in Färila.[12] (Sophiendal will have been a part of Los - it's all in the middle of the woods).
