When Edward Spencer New was born on April 19, 1830, in Kentucky, his father, James, was 24 and his mother, Frances, was 25. He married Mary Catherine Peterson in 1852. They had 14 children in 27 years. He died on January 4, 1922, in Hill, Texas, at the age of 91, and was buried in Iredell, Texas.
