Research Notes

Disambiguation. This David Preston, the son of Thomas and Rebecca (Nurse) Preston.[1] is not the same person as David Presbury (abt.1690-1763), the son of William and Priscilla (Randall) Presbury/Presson/Preston.

According to Charles Henry Preston (1931), in 1701, Thomas and Rebecca's sons, David Preston and his brother Jonathan, were in the "3rd seat front galery" of the Meeting House; these brothers were last taxed in 1724 at Salem Village. The author reports "David's name appears on the First Church records (Salem Village), 1719-20-21-22-23-24."[2] Thomas Preston, the father, died in 1697, but his estate wasn't settled until the execution of a deed dated 7 June 1711. That deed describes Thomas' sons Jonathan and David as "of Salem ... husbandmen."[3] There is no record reporting that Thomas and Rebecca's son David was ever a fisherman or of Manchester, Massachusetts. See also Essex County contemporaries, both David Presson.

Hi Julie,

Since there are two Davids who have been confused on other sites, and assuming there are no objections, plan to add the "easily confused" box to this profile. --GeneJ
