Married at the residence of the bride's father Squire Ransom Smith on last Sunday evening at 3 o'clock, Mr. J. T. McGuire to Miss M. E. Smith, Elder E. Phillips performing the ceremony. May their lives be long, happy and prosperous ones.[1]

Mary Elizabeth was the mother of 11 children, including two sets of twins. Barely seven weeks after the birth of her youngest child, Mary Elizabeth died from a case of the measles, leaving family members to worry about the well-being of her infant daughter. The baby remained healthy, but the next youngest child, Donnie, died from the measles less than a week after her mother's death.
