Hugh De Belchamp
Important royal official and major tenant-in-chief in Bedfordshire, of which he was sheriff during William I's reign and early in William II's. He succeeded Ralph Taillebois in the office, having, in all probability, married Ralph's daughter and principal heiress. His fief became the barony of Beauchamp. From Beauchamps, cant.
