Biography

William went to Indiana with his father in the early 1800s. He married his first cousin, Mary Hanna Templeton (born 8 December 1789), who was the daughter of his uncle John Templeton. Mary died on 31 December 1814 at age 24, and she was buried on her father's farm.

After Mary's death, William married Mary Churchill on 8 February 1821 (per Indiana marriage records). Mary married a William Sparks after William died and eventually moved to Missouri. She is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Atchison County, MO. Her tombstone has her born on 6 June 1802 and died on 22 December 1879.

William died before his father did, but William's second wife Mary was left $1.00 by Robert. Three of William's four children are also mentioned in Robert's will: Agnes and Oliver G. by William's first wife; James Mortimer by William's second wife. The forth child, Elizabeth Ann, was not mentioned by name although Robert stated William's four children were to receive an inheritance.

In a Sparks Quarterly, the children of William by Mary Churchill are listed as James Mortimer, born 11 March 1822, and Elizabeth Ann, born 11 July 1824. In the July 1831 Probate Court of Franklin County, Indiana, William Sparks was appointed as their guardian.

William's grave is not far from his brother's. William's grave is number 127 and his brother Robert's is number 119.

Templeton-1666 and Templeton-388 appear to represent the same person because: Hey Jack - Ron and I discussed this fellow and he pointed out that the death information on Templeton-388 is incorrect and that this is actually the same as Templeton-1666. So this merge is good to go!

Thanks Mags

Mags,

I should be removed as Project Manager of any & all Laurens Co, SC Templetons. This profile was submitted before Ron came on the WIKI scene with accurate documentation of SC Temps.. I only feel qualified to correct the N. Iredell TempsTempletons

Hey Jack,

I am assuming this is still a part of the family you have been working towards correcting. Note Nan's note below - If this is another correction, remove the unmerged match and continue. IF there really is an issue with the place of death work that out then merge. Thanks for the great work on these! Mags

Templeton-1666 and Templeton-388 are not ready to be merged because: Death place is completely different -- should be checked out before merging.
