Mary Ann Thomas was born on 11 March 1831 at St. John, Wilberforce, Australia to Thomas Thomas and his wife, Maria Thomas.[1] Mary Ann was christened on 8 May 1831.[2]

It's rumoured that Mary Ann Thomas gave birth to at least 4 other children [two boys and two girls] before she married William.

I did find these children born to Mary Ann Thomas and father of all was listed as Joseph,who I believe was her De-Fact husband. The babies were born between 1845-49-51-53 in New South Wales Australia.

(On her Husband William Bartle's Death Certificate in 1900 lists these 2 x Males-2 x Females as being Deceased)

Mary Thomas’ 3 children , William 9 years, Mary Ann 4 years and Fanny? 7 years of age are taken by the Benevolent Society and a year later 1864 are sent to the Randwick Institution (Home for destitute Children). Reason “mother unable to care for them, father in Parramatta insane asylum”, “mother of children in service of Captain Jenkins”.

Mary keeps her son Henry Thomas. She later has 4 more children and names some after the ones removed who are referred to as ‘deceased'. Mary Ann Bartle is born in 1868, Matilda in 1866, Martha 1872 and William Bartle in 1869. (Benevolent Society Records)

1865 Death of 11 year old Henry Thomas from Typhus fever. His family is living at South Creek camp. On his death certificate he is called “illegitimate”.
